Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday has sought a reply from law ministry till March 12 over not presenting a bill to stop violence against children in the National Assembly. Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Athar Minallah conducted hearing on a plea submitted by Pakistani famous singer, social activist and Zindagi Trust President Shehzad Roy against physical punishment of children in schools. Singer Shahzad Roy along with his lawyer Shahabuddin Osto and Minister for Human Rights Dr. Sherry Mazari were also present in the court. During the proceedings, Shehzad Roy told the court that torturing the students at educational institutions has become trend in Pakistan. This practice should be banned for better development of the children, he requested. Shahzad Roy told the court how the Guardian can allow the physical punishment of children. Meanwhile, the IHC Chief Justice asked about the legislation on the bill passed against student assault. Islam also doesn’t allow anyone to torture a kid. This mindset has to be changed at any cost, he remarked. If there had been no media today, we would never have known such type of issues, he said. Political leadership and parliament have to change society's thinking, punishment of public execution will not do good to society, human behavior needs to change, he added. The court said that the decision on the plea will be announced in next hearing on March 30.
